Celebration of Life
Condolences
The Celebration of Life was very well done and uplifting. It was so nice to hear all of the speakers express sentiments so similar to mine and those of others. Reid was certainly one of a kind as was Hughie. I cherished our 60 year friendship which started from the time I first stepped onto the field with the 1964 Pincher Creek Chinooks. They were both a very important part of my life which I will never forget as was Yvonne and the team.
If there was no goop in Heaven before they arrived there definitely is now. I’m sure they will also be sharing game day breakfasts, dinners and card games with John, Ed, Dave, Ken, Tony and Andre.
With Love,
Terry and Ruth
Reid was a wonderful man, we all looked forward to his visits at our family restaurant . Always polite and courteous, his favourite booth to sit was one by the window. He knew so many people and had intriguing stories to tell.
We will miss you Reid, with love
The Spiros Family
Yvonne, Tony and family. My sincere condolences on the passing of your dad, father in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. The impact that Reid had on so many people will always be remembered. From the moment I made the MRC basketball team, I became a part of the Hughie and Reid family. That family consisted of you, Yvonne, past players, current players and so many more. I am grateful for the impact he had on my life in a very positive way.
Sincerely,
Debbie Yanota
I'm very sorry to learn of Reid's passing. We worked together at Gulf many years ago and had a close personal relationship as well.
He was a fine person and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Tribute to Coach Reid
(I regret that I am out of the country and will miss honouring Reid in person)
I was a very insecure 17 year old when I walked into the MRC gym in September 1972.
And...I loved basketball.
At 5ft 4 1/2in - I was pretty intimidated by the height and confidence of most of the girls around me. I worked hard and juggled my dairy queen job, classes and tryouts that first month.
The last tryout practice, I was supposed to work. I said to my Mom, I'm going to work. I can't face taking the bus all the way down there only to see that list and my name not on it.
I got home from work that night and Mom said 'Coach Reid called and said you need to call him back'.
I was prepared for the gentle let down 'you're young, there's always next year'.
Instead he said in his gruffest voice 'where were you tonight, you missed practice?'.
I told him I had to work. He said 'are you going to be able to juggle work and basketball, because I need a commitment from you if you're on this team?'
I meekly said ' I choose basketball!!'
Like everyone that played for Reid, he became such a strong mentor to me, and remained that way, all of my life. He expected full commitment and hard work. In return he gave completely of himself, he and Hughie (and Yvonne) opened their home up to all of us. So many incredible memories of roulette pie in the face, pass the balloon races, crazy ice cream sundaes, and, always, goop and soft cookies.
I know there is a very special place in heaven for Coach Reid.
I love him and will miss him so very much.
Longshot Lori 1972-75 (yes - I stayed the extra year to play basketball : )
Please share my contact info with any of the team that might be there.

Yvonne Tony and the entire family....my heartfelt condolences on Reid's passing. My heart is a little broken. I always enjoyed our weekly visits with you working in the yard and always ending in sharing cookies, cheesiest, or cheese buns and a can of pop. And our calls each week in the winter checking up on each other. We shared a special bond involving firefighters and cleaning a drain out. We survived as we figured they didn't want us up there just yet. It's your time to go but save me a spot for someday ....see you later my friend....I will miss you!
