Obituary of Susan Welz

January 22, 1954 – Regina, Saskatchewan

May 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Susan Elizabeth Welz (nee Evans) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

She was born in Regina, SK, as the youngest of Edward and Emma Evans. The family later moved to Red Deer, AB. She then moved to Calgary, AB, where she attended Queen Elizabeth High School and graduated from James Fowler High School.

Susan lived a great, eventful life filled with music, creativity, travel, and more. She was a very gifted and talented person. She played guitar, wrote and recorded songs, was a member of numerous folk bands, painted, did flower arrangements, made stained-glass and mosaics, crocheted scarves, slippers, and prayer shawls, which she gave to charity and friends.

Susan’s activities, employment, and church services were numerous and included The Foothills Academy, Teachers Aid, FCSS Family and Community Support Services, implementing Alberta Social Services Programs in rural Alberta, a Registered Massage Therapist under Dr. Ing (Crowfoot), a past Chairwoman of Calgary Christian Women’s Club, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Verse Reader, and a Board Member.

We will miss her greatly but know that she is with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, where we will meet again.

Susan is survived by her husband of fifty years, Reiner Welz, sons, Shayne and Jason; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her bulldog Benjamin, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 – 34th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 – 34th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Crossfield Cemetery (Township Rd 285, Crossfield, AB T0M 0S0).

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
