Obituary of Gregory Stuart Park
September 28, 1950 - Calgary, Alberta
June 15, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with immense sadness and profound grief that we announce the death of Gregory Stuart Park. He was a wonderful man and led a magnificent life. Greg will be remembered by many as an adventurous spirit with a curious soul and an infectious sense of humour.
A contemporary renaissance man, Greg would give anything a try. He was at different times a sailor, rugby player, search and rescue diver, trivia master, educator, and scholar. He was a skilled marksman, motorcycle riding instructor, risk assessment expert, and world traveller. He participated in the rodeo, drove an ambulance, got his first motorcycle at fourteen, and spent as much time on the open road touring the highways of North America and beyond with his friends as he did reading every history book and magazine on his Kindle. He had so many books at home when his kids were little that they made forts and castles out of them. Greg could tell you just about everything you needed to know about anything. He was a repository of information, a student of history, and human nature; and an amazing teller of tales.
Gregory had an illustrious and storied career with the City of Calgary Police Department. Greg was an exemplary officer of the law from October 1970 to his retirement in 1999. He was a trailblazer, innovator, educator, and force to be reckoned with as a sergeant and detective on the job. Greg was a fearless leader and a loyal friend.
Gregory loved his family more than anything and was a steadfast husband, delightful father, and doting grandpa. No one's Dad was as cool or interesting or could kill you with just his thumb. His grandkids refer to him as The Epic Legend and he will be sorely and sadly missed.
