Obituary of Brian Douglas Younger

April 20, 1960 – Fort Saint John, British Columbia

June 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Brian (Bri) Younger, of Calgary, AB, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 64 years.

Brian was born in Fort Saint John, BC, on April 20, 1960.  He lived in Taylor, BC for three years before his family moved back to Calgary, where Brian completed school at Western Canada High School. He attended Northern Arizona University and eventually returned and settled in Calgary. Brian had many different work opportunities taking him all over Alberta and British Columbia. But eventually, his entrepreneurial spirit took over. He started two companies, one in forestry, and the other in the oil and gas business and gradually took over his father's company, AH Younger Engineering.  

Brian had a passion for many things:  his dogs, vintage cars, nature walks, patio lunches, the arts, and reading.  An avid sports fan, he attended all genres of sports and travelled to different destinations globally attending major sporting events. He loved to play sports and was very competitive, winning several awards in high school. It was there he developed a passion for soccer and later became a coach.  Brian was committed to coaching soccer for many years, even winning an award of merit in 2012, for his dedication and commitment.  Brian was deeply connected to his family and friends, his teammates when he played, and his players, when he moved into coaching, which became an integral part of his life.  He was generous to all, quietly helping others. He left too soon and will be missed by all.

Brian is survived by his brothers, Dave (Maureen) and Stuart (Linda); nephews, Brett (Melissa), Tom (Jess), and Cameron; many Carlyle cousins, and his sweet dog, Lacey.

Brian was predeceased by his parents, Andy and Marnie.

A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Dr SW, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
