Dear Cooper family,
My condolences on your father death. He was an instrumental figure in my scientific career, with one of the first courses I took as a grad student at U of C being Rod's Psych course.I very much appreciated his historical insights and wry observations. I continued to keep in touch with him over the years and every time I ran into him in the basement of the admin building I learned something new. He was truly passionate about his work and he always had time to chat. He made a mark!
Dear family.
I will treasure the memories of have of playing tennis with Rod first at the University "way back when"....and later at Calgary Tennis Club, where he valiantly kept playing. He was a real trooper...and I appreciated his not giving up!
My condolences.

Dear Merrill, Kim and Brent. I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. My late Sheila and I shared so many happy memories with your Mom and Dad over so many years. Your Mom and Sheila graduated together from Sion Academy in Saskatoon and when your parents moved to Calgary and the brand new University of Calgary, they were able to continue their friendship. How wonderful that was.
Dear Merrill, Brent, Kim and family,
We have such wonderful memories of both your Mom and your Dad. They were such great friends to our parents over the years. And they were always so warm and supportive of us children.
Looking back, even we can remember seeing Rod in his tennis shorts! He had so much energy! We know our father throughly enjoyed having him as a colleague at U of C for those many decades.
When our father died, it was so thoughtful of Rod—and you Merrill—to come to his memorial. And then when our sister Joanne died, he still remembered the family, sending flowers. We will be holding all of you dear to our hearts. With much sympathy for a wonderful man, Violet, Chuck, Violet Jn., Catherine and Richard
Hi Merrill, Brent, Kim and family,
I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Rod. My brother, Don and I were invited to dinner at your dad’s house last summer when I was in town from Ontario and I enjoyed hearing his stories about the history of the neighborhood (and Merrill’s cooking - delicious!) It is so amazing that Don and Rod were neighbours for 54 years. Don thinks the world of your dad and really did watch out for him. If he hadn’t seen Rod for a few days, I know Don was always concerned.
I too have many memories of Rod. I grew up next door to your family having moved from Sherwood Park when I was 11 and spent a lot of time at your childhood home. Rod and Judy were always welcoming to me and I ate thousands of their “Freezies” with Merrill! They were so generous! I will always remember Rod running out to his brown car in his tennis whites throughout the weeks in the summer. He was a handsome, intelligent, athletic man and will be missed.

Dearest Merrill, Kim, Brent and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Rod was a brilliant professor and a hospitable man to all of us girls who invaded his and Judy's home to raid the fridge with Merrill back in the day. Determined to the end to do his own thing and add to his legacy. I will have to get on the tennis courts and hit a few ball in honor of the game date that we always missed. Rest is finally yours Dr. Cooper.
