Obituary of Ken Louie 雷國權

Ken Louie, beloved husband of Holly Louie (nee Cheng) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

Ken was born in Do Tau village in Guangdong, China, on January 2, 1931. He moved to Vancouver, BC, on April 9, 1952, and one month later, to Calgary, AB, in May of 1952.

Ken was a member of the Calgary Sue Yuen Association, where he served as Vice Chairman for two years. He was also a member of the Shon Yee Benevolent Association for 72 years. He served as a board member for 50 years and was appointed Chairman for 20 years, from 1988 to 2008. Ken was a member of the Calgary Chinese Evangelical Free Church. Ken retired at the age of 55 to focus on managing family properties.

Besides his loving wife Holly, Ken is survived by his children and grandchildren; Barbara and her children, Ainsley, Olivia, Nathalie, and Nicholas, of Calgary, AB; Melissa and her children, Kenzo and Kaiya, of Okinawa, Japan, and Vancouver, BC; and Justin and his child KJ, of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his eight nephews and nieces and their families. Ken is predeceased by his brother and sister.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis and Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB T2M 3A6).
