Michael Viccars, beloved husband of Yuki Viccars (nee Sato) of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 50 years. Michael was born at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary.
Michael's early years (birth to age ten) were spent in Calgary, AB. After that, the family moved to Richmond, BC. Michael attended Steveston Secondary in Richmond, BC. Upon graduating from high school, he returned to Calgary, graduating from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts. After spending two years in Japan as an English Language teacher, he returned to Canada to Vancouver, BC. Michael completed his Bachelor of Education degree at UBC. The largest part of Michael's teaching career was spent in Calgary, working for the Calgary Board of Education. Michael's students will remember him as a creative and empathetic person in their lives.
After five years of working in the Jet program in Japan, Michael and Chiharu, mother of the children, Luke, Chris, and Amelie returned to Calgary in 2009. They purchased their home in Bowness near the beautiful Bow River Parkway and moved in when Katrina was an infant. Michael's happiest times over the past few years were spent walking along the river, often with Yuki and Tommy, their labradoodle. Michael loved his home. His children will remember cheering for their favourite teams while watching TV sports, scary movies, playing board games like Jenga, doing puzzles, and going outside to throw the football around with Luke and Chris.
Michael married Yuki in 2018. Besides his loving wife, Michael is survived by his two daughters, Amelie and Katrina; two sons, Luke and Christopher; as well as Yuki's son Ryusei. Michael was a loving father who will be remembered fondly for his playfulness and storytelling ability. He inspired his children to always be their personal best and celebrated them as the individuals they are growing up to be.
Michael is also survived by his three brothers, Rob (Deb), Kevin (April), Patrick (Roslyn), and sister Amanda (Andrew). His brothers and sisters live in the lower mainland of Vancouver, BC. Michael is also survived by his mother, Susan Viccars, who lives in Vancouver, BC. Michael is the uncle of Brooke, Austin, Annika, Oscar, Sam, Max, and Desmond. Michael's paternal grandmother Mary Viccars continues to march on at over 100 years.
Michael was predeceased by his father Tom Viccars, grandmother Audrey McArthur, and grandfather Ken Viccars.
