January 10, 1948 – Myrnam, Alberta
September 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the passing of Marlene Ann Eisert at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary, on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the age of 76 years. Surrounded by her loving family, Marlene departed this life after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marlene was born in Myrnam, AB, on January 10, 1948. She grew up in her hometown of Derwent until the age of nine, at which time her family relocated to Edmonton. After completing high school, Marlene entered the Misericordia School of Nursing and graduated in 1969. Soon after graduation, Marlene began working at the St. Albert Hospital, where she completed her career as a Diabetic Educator in 2017.
Marlene was a devoted wife and best friend to her husband George for fifty-three cherished years. After marrying in 1971, they moved to St. Albert and raised their family in that community. They relocated to Calgary in 2019 to be closer to their daughter Jennifer and her family.
Marlene leaves behind a legacy of devotion, love, and strength, deeply missed by her children, Greg (Jennifer) and Jennifer. As a special Baba, she adored every one of her five grandchildren, Brodie, Ayden, Taylor, Emmett, and Kaitlyn.
Marlene was the beloved sister of Orest (Monica) Bykowski and Emily (Bob) Makar. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Marlene was predeceased by her loving parents, John and Sophie Bykowski, as well as her dear sister Emily.
Marlene’s passions included a variety of sports, but she was particularly fond of curling and golf. She also enjoyed gardening and just being in the great outdoors. Marlene loved helping others in any capacity and took great pleasure in making people feel special and heard.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Southwood Care Centre Hospice and the South Heath Campus Hospital for all the care and attention that they provided to Marlene.
Marlene will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared with all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
