Obituary of Wayne Evans
June 6, 1944 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
September 7, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
The family of Wayne Evans is deeply saddened by his passing on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Wayne was born in Saskatoon on D-Day (June 6, 1944) to Marge and Lloyd Evans. He was raised on a farm near Dundurn.
He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education. Immediately he obtained a position in Calgary and in 1967 Wayne and Sandra were married and moved to Calgary. They enjoyed travelling and were able to visit many places and make many happy memories.
Wayne enjoyed teaching and was always very involved with coaching school teams and taking students on varied school trips. He was also a guidance counsellor and part of the mentorship program. Wayne also coached his sons in every sport they played. He was active in many sports himself and passed this love on to his sons. He loved his sons very much was very proud of them and their many accomplishments. His grandchildren were very special to him and brought him much happiness.
In the summer of 1976, he began construction of the cabin on the Shuswap. It really was a labour of love and a wonderful legacy for his children and grandchildren. Over the past 49 years, many wonderful memories were made there with friends and family. The Shuswap was Wayne’s favourite place to be.
Wayne also had a great love of farming and enjoyed farming with his brother Gary. In addition to that, he loved planting and harvesting the garden with his sister Carol. There were many discussions at the kitchen table about crops and the best design for the garden. Wayne was very close to Gary, Lynn, and Carol and loved to spend time in Saskatchewan with them.
Friends were also very important to Wayne, and he had a unique ability to bring people together, usually to play a game of some sort (horseshoes, bean bag toss or golf on the beach with your homemade club and a tennis ball). He organized many events at the lake and was always willing to start the gas-powered blender to mix drinks for all while sharing appetizers on the deck.
The three Old English Sheepdogs were trained with varying degrees of success and were a wonderful part of the family. Wayne loved the dogs, and they were great companions.
Besides his loving wife Sandra, Wayne is survived by his sons David, and Jonathan (Mel), and his three grandchildren Harper, Brody, and Ben.
Wayne is also survived by his brother Gary (Lynn), his sister Carol, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Marge and Lloyd.
