May 5, 1943 - New Liskeard, Ontario
September 9, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynn Arnold Nichol on Monday, September 9, 2024. Lynn departed this world surrounded by the love of family and friends, who rallied around him with warmth and support during his final weeks.
Born on May 5, 1943, in New Liskeard, ON, Lynn was the son of Arnold and Beaulah Nichol. He eventually found his way to Calgary, AB, where he dedicated 28 years of his life working for the City of Calgary. Throughout his career, Lynn exemplified service and commitment, always finding joy in the simple details of his daily tasks. Lynn was a devoted husband to Elizabeth for 43 years, with whom he nurtured a loving household, raising two daughters, Tracy and Tammy. He cherished every moment shared with his loved ones.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his daughters, Tammy and Barb; his brother Danny (Ann). He was an uncle to Amy, a proud grandfather to Jarret, Bobby (Brittany), Sherry-Lynn, and Crysta; and a great-grandpa to Oliver, Dylan, Kaya, and Alex.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, daughter Tracy, and niece Bonnie.
We will all remember Lynn with deep fondness, and his ability to invoke love and laughter in all of us. A man of varied interests, Lynn embraced life fully. In his earlier days he enjoyed playing guitar around the campfire, hunting, and the gun range. He always cherished evenings spent with friends over drinks, indulged in travel adventures, and enjoyed games of pool. He returned to playing golf in his 70s like he hadn’t spent any time away from the green. He had a special affinity for bluegrass music, often finding solace in it’s melodies.
In 2022, Lynn took a trip to North Carolina and Tennessee to attend bluegrass music festivals with his daughter, Tammy. He was quick to tell his family and friends what great memories they made and how much fun was had. Among many treasured memories with family and friends, one of his most cherished recent experiences was attending his first NFL game with his closest friend Bev, who is also left to grieve.
As we remember Lynn Arnold Nichol, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man filled with kindness, warmth, and an enduring spirit that inspired all fortunate enough to know him. Though he may now rest, his legacy of love, kindness, and humor will resonate in the hearts of his family and friends for years to come.
A private Celebration of Lynn’s Life is being planned. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to reach out to the family directly.
