Marina Agnes Stevens (nee Boyes)

Obituary of Marina Agnes Stevens (nee Boyes)

November 25, 1934 - Swift Current, Saskatchewan

September 10, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Marina Agnes "Mimi" Stevens, beloved wife of Tom Stevens, passed away at her home in Calgary in the early hours of Tuesday, September 10, 2024, with her family by her side.  Marina was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and dear friend. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled.

Born on November 25, 1934, in Swift Current, SK, Marina was the daughter of Bill and Bertha Boyes. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Calgary and married her darling, Tom. Marina and Tom had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August. She always told us that the day she married Tom was one of the happiest days of her life.

Mimi's passions in life revolved around her family and friends. She had a love for music, and laughter, and was always happiest when hosting gatherings with her friends and loved ones. She was a skilled cook, known for her delicious roast beef suppers with all the trimmings. Mimi enjoyed gardening and taking care of her beautiful flowerpots, taking pride in her showy annuals and delighting in her perennials.

Marina will be remembered for her humour, wit, warmth, and mischief.  As Dr. Seuss once said, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Mimi will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Mimi is survived by her husband Tom, her daughters, Susan (Don Beamish), Kathleen (Michel Hébert), Jennifer (Ken Labach), and Lisa (Gordon Dunn), and her son, Tom (Amra Stevens). She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Jared, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Francois, Isabelle, Nicole, Mykola, Emily, Kate, Cole, and Malcolm, as well as her four great-grandchildren. Marina will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many dear friends from near and far. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill Boyes, and sister, Helen Jullien. To our special family friends, Anja and Karel Sagasser, we would like to thank them for their love and support.

A special thank you to the Calgary Palliative Care team, the physicians and the nursing team at the C3 Sarcee program, and the wonderful caregivers for their care and support.
