Obituary of Charles Clarence Villeneuve

December 21, 1938 – Onion Lake, Saskatchewan

September 13, 2024– Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Sonny Villeneuve. His absence leaves a huge hole in our hearts.

Sonny was a man of few words, but the words spoken held great care and compassion. His family and friends meant the world to him.

Living his early years in Onion Lake Cree Nation, he experienced the good and the bad. The good of the people and nature fueled his soul. The bad is due to residential schools. His mom moved him to Calgary, AB, giving him a chance at a different lifestyle, which he embraced and prospered for over 70 years.

Sonny worked for over 30 years with the City of Calgary, first at the Foothills arena where he gained his love of hockey, then for Roads, where he drove heavy equipment. His love of sports carried over to his sons and grandchildren, often helping to coach their hockey teams.

He leaves behind his loving wife Val, his sons Greg and Derek; and his grandchildren, Lazaya, Jess, Vanay, Haze, Kyle, and Jesse, Sabastion. He is also lovingly remembered by his numerous close family members and friends.

Sonny was predeceased by his mom, stepdad, sister, and brother.

A Celebration of Sonny’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
