Obituary of Bob Lowe
January 9, 1947 - Dodsland, Saskatchewan
September 15, 2024 - Airdrie, Alberta
The world has sent Heaven another legend.
Robert “Bob” Murray Lowe passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie, AB, on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
Bob was predeceased by his former wife of 35 years, Sandra Lynn Lowe (nee Clarke). Bob is survived by his three loving children, son Shawn Lowe (Chantelle), daughter Shannon Lewis (Greg), and son Tyler Lowe (Kat); and his grandchildren, Kyla, Kaitlyn, Cody, Talen, Gracelyn, Ella, and Austin.
Bob was born in Dodsland, SK, on January 9th, 1947, to Harold Murray Lowe and Lola Marie Lowe (nee Brown). Bob leaves behind six siblings, Barry Lowe (Wendy Barr), Bev Kaufman, Barbara Kuhn (Jerry Kuhn), Bonnie Dobbs, Brian Lowe, and Carol Latreille (Jerry); as well as many loved nieces, nephews and close friends.
Bob was raised on the Lowe family farm in Hoosier, SK, and attended grade school in the small town of Marengo. Bob left the homestead at the young age of nineteen, and joined the RCMP in Regina, SK. After his time in policing, Bob headed for Calgary where he would get married and start a family with Sandra in January 1971. Bob worked in the tree planting business for a few years before driving a truck for Thibeault Masonry and working part time in the bars to make ends meet so he could buy a home, chase his passion to race cars, and raise a young family.
Bob had a deep passion for racing stock cars, which he did from 1974 to 1989 at various tracks in Calgary, Western Canada, and the Northwest United States. He was aggressive and talented, and loved to win, thus collecting a pile of trophies over the years and capturing several championships.
Bob made many friends and, some would say, by 1980 probably knew half of the people in Calgary one way or another. Through friendship, Bob’s calling came in the spring of 1984 when he went to work in sales at Sonwell Signs with Harold Thompson. Bob was very much a people person and came in with a huge network of contacts, thus his career took off with great success, retiring in 2017, after 35 years of service.
Bob was larger than life, charismatic, and had many friends. He took pride in knowing, understanding and helping people, and enjoying time together having a few cold ones.
Bob’s children and grandkids were #1, and nothing meant more to him than his family. We will forever cherish the memories of our dad as he will be forever loved and missed. Cheers Dad, until we meet again! The last checker flag has waved; you can finally rest easy!! Forever #14 in our hearts!
