Obituary of Roger Gilbert Meidinger

October 23, 1935 – Beiseker, Alberta

September 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness but hearts full of love and gratitude that we share the passing of our beloved husband and dad, Roger Meidinger, at the age of 88.

Roger leaves behind his wife and best friend of 61 years, Joanne; sons Thomas, and Gregory (Lindsay); daughter Kathleen (Dan Kostuik); granddaughter Shea, and grandsons Thomas, Samuel, Matthew, and Roger.

Born and raised in Beiseker, AB, to Fred and Emma (Hagel), a brother to three sisters, Elaine, Viola, and Rosemarie. After high school, Dad went to work for the Royal Bank where he remained, until his retirement, as both a banker, and later a retirement advisor, for close to 40 years. In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed many years wintering in Palm Desert, CA. 

A natural athlete, Roger enjoyed all sports, but most enduring were curling and especially golf. Right up until the last week of his life, he was still golfing several times a week at Inglewood G&CC, where he and Mom were longtime members.

Roger was the consummate gentleman, generous and kind-spirited.  He was a man of integrity. Roger was a true family man; devoted son, and brother, loyal and loving husband, steady and caring father, and proud grandpa.  

He loved spending time with dear friends, good food, and drink, listening to music, singing, playing bridge, and watching sports.  Dad was a lot of fun.

Roger will be missed everyday by his family and friends, especially around the dinner table, and on the tee box.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Meidinger’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
