Obituary of Lillian Juanita Niven

Lillian Niven, beloved wife of James (Jim) Niven, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the age of 92 years.

Lillian was born in Montreal, QC, on November 16, 1931. She was the 11th born in a family of fifteen children. She was the mother of three girls of her own, one of whom sadly died at the young age of five years. Following her re-marriage to Jim Niven in 1973, she and Jim moved to Calgary in 1980 to begin a new life together.

Lillian is survived by her loving husband, Jim Niven, as well as her children, Cheryl Giroux of Calgary (Patrick), Barbara (Lori) Simpson of Ottawa (John Stevinson), her stepchildren, Sandra Edgett of Strathmore, AB, (Dan), and David Niven of Strathmore, AB, (Cheryl). She is also the caring grandmother of Derek Giroux (Karen), Nichole Giroux (Marci), Hilary & Heather Maxwell, as well as Dylan, Tina, Ryan & Brock Niven, and Chris & Dana Langtry.

As well as her immediate family, Lillian is also survived by her sisters, Kay Davignon of Ottawa (Denis), and Doreen Stewart of NFLD (Jock), and brother Don Sheppard of Brockville.

As one of fifteen children growing up, Lillian enjoyed the joy, love, support and comfort of a very large extended family. She enjoyed ballet and dancing at a young age, sewing, smocking and knitting for family members and friends, golfing, and one cannot forget the lucky horseshoe she seemed to possess at Bingo & the Casino. Her career included working for a family doctor, and accounting (both in Montreal and Calgary). She was also an avid volunteer in her retirement community.
