Obituary of Orest Senkiw

October 31, 1947 – Lestock, Saskatchewan

September 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Orest Senkiw of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the age of 76 years.

Orest was born to a farming family in Lestock, SK. He loved the freedom of the farm and running wild like any farm kid does. He also dreamed of travelling the world and found his perfect companion in this in his wife Linda Irene Hagerty who sashayed into his life and his heart during a blind date at a curling rink.

Together they raised two children across five cities in four different countries before settling in Calgary, AB. This also allowed them to summer on the farm and get back to some family roots.

Orest was an engineer by trade and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan Engineering. After settling in Calgary, he continued to work globally, while being an active baseball coach, ski parent, woodworker, bird watcher and gardener. And no matter where he lived or worked, he remained a die-hard Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, bleeding green and owning much ‘rider merchandise.

He and Linda also took some remarkable vacations to Turkey, France, Ukraine, and California. These became more precious memories as Linda was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and they settled into a more local lifestyle with Orest as her primary caregiver.

Once Linda passed, he refocused his time on becoming an active member of Toastmasters and spending time with cherished friends and family. Despite three cancers of his own, Orest powered through treatments and this summer did a cross-prairie trip for his final reunion tour.

Orest loved his family ferociously and was never afraid to say it and let them know how proud he was of them. Orest will be sadly missed by his daughter Michelle, son-in-law Paul, son Steven, sister Marusia (Don), sisters-in-law Connie and Claudia, brother-in-law Larry (Fay) and a vast array of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Linda, his parents Vera and Peter, and his brothers John and Bill.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Wynyard, Saskatchewan, on Friday September 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the Ukrainian Hall (218 Avenue B E, Wynyard, SK S0A 4T0)
