Obituary of Jane Ann McInnis

Jane McInnis, beloved wife of the late William McInnis, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the age of 80 years.

Jane was born in Vroomshoop, Netherlands, on September 13, 1944. In 1953, at the age of nine, she emigrated with her parents and siblings to Canada, settling in Edmonton, AB.

She started her professional life as a hairdresser and never entirely stopped hairdressing for her friends and family, even as she worked other jobs to support her family. She retired from Canada Post in 2007, after 25 years of employment there.

Jane had a passion for gardening, which she learned from her horticulturalist father. She would often be found tending her plants or playing with her grandchildren in the garden.

She was also a prolific reader; a habit picked up from her parents and taken up by her children.

Jane had a spirit for travel and adventure. She went to Expo ’67 in Montréal, spent the early 70s in Yellowknife, and explored rural Mexico in her youth. In later years, she travelled around North America with friends and family.

She will be most remembered as a person who rarely complained about the trials of life and brought a deep kindness to her relationships with family and friends. She was the center of all our lives and will be deeply missed.

Jane is survived by her three sons, Frazer, Graeme, and Kristian; and four grandchildren, Michael, Willian, Kali, and Zarian. She is also survived by her four sisters, Nellie, Hennie, Joanne, and Everdina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband William, her parents, Hilbertus and Neeltje; her sisters, Evelina and Hillgonda; and her brothers, Hendrick and Jan.

A Celebration of Jane’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
