Daniel Gooding of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the age of 63 years.

Dan was born in Calgary, AB, on August 23, 1961. For most of his life, he lived in the community of Lakeview with his (late) father William (Murray), his (late) mother Ruth, and his sister Sharon.

As he grew, Dan became an incredible artist, much like his parents. He created all kinds of artworks, from sign painting and portraits, but is mostly remembered for his comics.

Dan’s most memorable vacations were visiting his (late) aunt Bev and (late) uncle Bob Sorenson in Victoria, BC, with his family. He enjoyed spending time relaxing on the beach with his cousins Terry, Janice, and Susan Sorenson. He often fondly recalled these times spent with family.

In 1992, Dan married Lynn Diane Gooding (née Richmond). Shortly after, in July 1994, Dan and Lynn brought their daughter, Ayla Jennifer Gooding into the world.

He accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of becoming an arborist. Dan worked in landscaping for nearly 30 years, and over those years he learned everything he could about taking care of and manicuring trees. He had a passion for all living things, but overall, he loved watching plants and flowers grow year after year.

He will be most remembered for his sense of humour and his big heart. Dan found humour in everything and whenever someone was down, he’d be the first to try to cheer them up and lighten their sorrows with the gift of laughter to keep them going. He cared deeply for his friends and family and always wanted to see them smile.

Dan is survived by his former wife, Lynn Gooding (née Richmond), and daughter Ayla Jennifer Gooding, as well as his chosen daughter, Elizabeth Magee, who resides in Calgary, AB.

Dan is also survived by his sister Sharon Garratt (née Gooding) and brother-in-law Mel Garratt, who reside in Kelowna, BC; as well as his best friend and chosen brother, Kenneth Salmon, of Calgary, AB.

A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Gooding’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
