Condolences
Last saw Laner in Calgary at his shop where he expertly outfitted me in new skis and boots - it had been ~ 30 years since I had seen him at the cottage and he was the same kind and funny guy I remembered from the cottage. We caught up on our families and it was great to see photos of his boys on line skiing amazing powder runs. Rest now and know your kindness will never be forgotten.
I was very sorry to hear about Pete's passing. I was fortunate to have lived beside the Lane family on Bessborough Drive in Leaside (Toronto) for a number of years growing up and I have many fond memories of Pete and the Lane family.
My condolences to Pete's family in Calgary and to all the Lanes.
We last saw Pete in August 2023 when we were out for a boat ride and stopped by the Lane cottage. We had the pleasure of meeting Laura at that time too. My husband, Dave Shaw, was a childhood cottage friend of Pete’s. He has often told me of his fond memories and stories of growing up on the Severn river with the Lane, Weir and Vokes families. Both Dave and I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Laura and her family, and also to John, Jim and Judy and their families. We are thinking of all of you and we will forever hold a place for Peter in our hearts.
All the memories I have with Pete on the river. Pete used to get the punt and one HP motor and off we would go to the turtle pond. Parties we attended at his brother’s cottage.
Working and living at the Swift (Tam’s Snack Bar) when we were 13. There are many more stories I have of a great friend. R.I.P. my friend.
Laura and family,
My heart is shattered hearing this news, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I have many years of wonderful memories of Peter, working alongside one another at the Ski Cellar. We had a blast, never have I had a boss who was so fun to work for and work with. Always looked forward to every shift. Thank you Peter for being a part of my life and showing me to always keep the kid in me alive. You were a wonderful person and the world was blessed to have you in it.
Much love from our family, may your hearts heal quickly.

My deepest sympathy to Pete’s family on their loss and to all his other family and friends. May all your wonderful memories keep you strong during this sad time.

My sincere condolences to all family and friends . I had the honor of working with Peter at the ski cellar for several years before I went a different direction. Peter was always calm collected and a true gentleman every single day . He even took our affectionate nickname Ned Flanders because of his mustache in good humor . We could go for a number of years not seeing each other , but when we did it was like picking up where we left off yesterday, that to me is a true friend . I'm really sad at your loss as you were one of the really good ones who made the world just a bit better for being here .
Miss you

Laura and Family,
I am saddened by the news of Peter’s passing.
May his kindness and humour live on within you all.
He will truly be missed ❤️
Oh, such sad news. Peter was truly a lovely, kind, compassionate human. Most definitely a favourite of mine in the ski industry. To his family; I can't imagine your pain. Remember all those good days together. I wish I could change this for you. Sending much love, Donna Kitchen White
My name is Bob Krysak, and I live in Banff, Alberta. I met Peter years ago when I was a rep for Salomon, and then through the years at Ski Shows and the Ski Cellar. He is a wonderful human being, and his spirit and energy will live on. RIP Peter, enjoy those endless slopes of Powder.
Peter Lane - A great boss who made you feel like family.
The Ski Cellar was, and is, a family. He told me this family thing in my interview and Frank-Lee I wasn't drinking that Kool-aid at that moment. Fast-forward 7 seasons and I was totally bought in, and I was part of the family. I went on to harbor a career in a different industry but would always go see Pete in August/September to see if an extra boot fitter was needed for a shift or two a week he kept at the family table. I became "the boot" guy for a good while and loved the work, Pete always pumped my tires about how good of a fitter and technician he thought I was, his encouragement resulted in my confidence which inturn went directly to our customers. He also employed his actual family (sons Chris and Dave - aka Baby Sprocket) who made it that much more fun to work at Ski Cellar - the behind the scenes stuff was what made the ever lasting memories and friendships. I know Peter knew about the silly antics and he turned a blind eye because he knew the fun we had at work reflected to our customers -"your fun is our obsession"- was something he lived by and it showed. Now, Peter did keep us focused on selling in the Cellar and was the stonewall that kept the inmates from running the asylum the balance he maintained with his team was fantastic, something I have tried to emulate as a manager myself.
I will cherish my memories of Pete and our working relationship for life. The life long friends I made under his tutelage will only further cement his legacy in my heart and our collective memories of Pete and the Ski Cellar will not fade like ski tracks on a snowy day.
We will loop our favorite chairs, make the best turns we can and always enjoy the apres with you in our hearts.
My deepest condolences to the Lane's and extended families.
I only met Peter once and had a great week with him and Laura, my husband Dave, and Dave's and Laura's brother and wife at the cottage in Ontario. Peter was the perfect host and did everything he could to make our stay perfect. And it was perfect. We enjoyed all our times in their screened porch by the water, all our chats and all our meals together. The boat ride was so much fun too. I will forever hold these memories near my heart. Peter always had a smile for us and I'll remember those smiles and his ultimate kindness for all time.
I moved to Calgary in 2012. Pete gave me a job pretty much when I arrived. Over the next 12 years, what started as a typical boss/employee relationship, blossomed into a strong and valuable friendship. He helped guide me through my most challenging years and during the biggest transition of my life, leaving my life in Ontario behind and starting a new one in Calgary. He gave me a family when I had none out there. I will remember him as one of my greatest mentors and friends and I send my deepest condolences to Laura, Chris and Dave. The ski cellar family is one of a kind, and it’s a lot in thanks to this kind, funny, smart and caring man. Love you Pete and see you on the other side.
I worked for Peter during my university years full time at the Ski Cellar. He taught me salesmanship, customer service and how to be cool under pressure with difficult people which has translated to my careers' success. Peter was always quick to lay a dry and funny sarcastic line to see if you were paying attention. I joked that we should play hookie and ditch the store to go get a scotch down the road at the dive of a bar, Mugs Pub just about every other week when the place was super busy to which he always said "sure, let's go". We never did as we were responsible but I knew the sentiment was genuine. Thoughts are with the family as we all know he is gone too soon. - Decklun McBride
