Obituary of Ervin Douglas Braun
July 6, 1943 – Lampman, Saskatchewan
September 25, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ervin Douglas Braun on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the age of 81 years. Ervin passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family.
Erv is now in the presence of Jesus along with his parents, Albert and Olga Braun; and siblings, Art, Elsie, Hertha, Bill, Ed, Walter, and Abby.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Helen, his daughters, Paula and Cathy, and their mother Fay; stepchildren, Kim and Sean; grandchildren, Nik, Ashia, Chelsea, Zephaniah, Trevor, Jessica, Kameryn, Kobe, Danielle, and Sienna; and great-grandchildren, Maeva, Marlo, Braelynn, and Enzo. He is also survived by his sisters, Alma, Helena, and Erma; and his brother Len.
Erv began his life on the family farm in Lampman, SK. He was the baby of a large family and according to his siblings, “the favourite”. Erv moved to Medicine Hat in his junior year, and it was there that he honed his entrepreneurial skills. Throughout his life, he was always a successful salesman and business owner. After his high school graduation in ’62, he worked at War Surplus and Medicine Hat News, before opening his own music store. In 1964 Erv married Fay Hunsicker. Erv and Fay moved to Calgary, AB, in 1968. He later owned and operated Gulf Oil on the corner of Elbow Drive and Southland Drive and another gas station in Glenmeadows. In 1985, Erv married Helen Hillmer-Moriyama. He opened Rocky Mountain RV and soon after, Canadian Leisure RV, which remains open to this day. He was hard-working and took pride in his work.
Erv was the kind of guy that knew everyone, and everyone knew him. If you needed anything, Erv always “knew a guy” that could help.
When not attending his many business ventures, Erv would get away with Helen to their home in Mesquite, NV, or spend time with friends and family at their acreage in Carsland, AB.
Erv will be deeply missed by many. He was a generous man and passionate about his faith. He was always one to lend a helping hand and to share the message of God’s unconditional love and salvation through Jesus.
