Obituary of Alice Wintonyk

August 5, 1936 - Lockwood, Saskatchewan

September 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce that Alice Wintonyk (nee Schroeder) passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the age of 88 years.

Alice is survived by her husband Walter Wintonyk, daughters, Reana DeSilva and Andrea Hart; her granddaughter Nataja deSiliva (Iaian Hendry), and her great-grandson Kai Hendry.

She is now visiting with her mum Ottilia, father Rudolf, brothers, Ben, Eldon, and Alex; her sisters, Ruth and Gert; and her nephews, Gren, Tim, and Dennis.

Alice had an amazing career as a Lab Technician when she graduated from the Regina College and Saskatoon City Hospital School of Medicine. She first worked at the City Hospital in Saskatoon before moving to Calgary. Alice started her career at the General Hospital, and during this time, she received her Advanced Certification in Hematology! She continued to work at Foothills and Peter Lougheed hospitals. For a brief time, she taught Hematology and Immunohematology at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Her students would stop her to thank her for what she taught them when she went back to work in the hospitals.

Alice was always smiling and always up for an adventure. She loved to bake and at Christmas, family and friends would enjoy those baked goods as presents. She was an avid gardener with the ability to spend many hours outside tending to her flowers. Like her personality, her garden was filled with a variety of colorful flowers each year. She adored her family and enjoyed being able to travel and see them, even on the other side of the world in Australia. Walter and Alice enjoyed travelling together and enjoyed their trips overseas and within North America. However, she also found solitude in reading, especially outdoors to enjoy her backyard.

A Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
