John Ostrom was a friend, a neighbour, a coworker and colleague, and a quiet inspiration. We were fortunate to have had the Ostrom's as neighbours during our time in Calgary. Our kids played together, grew up together, and benefited together from John's always optimistic and positive outlook on life. We shared BBQs, wine and a love of dogs. And John was always the calm, the one with a smile, the wry laugh, the good looking guy with the best sun glasses. We will always treasure the time we had with John, and already miss him dearly.

My deepest sympathy to Isabel and the rest of John’s family. It is a huge sadness to see a great friend, mentor and coach leave us so suddenly.
John took the time to pick up every phone call, through rain or shine. We met often for coffee chats and dinners, where he shared his thoughts and life lessons. One lesson John passed on: conduct yourself with great class. This valuable lesson will always remain!
John loved his check-mates, usually at my expense, but our time spent during our furious chess battles always led to laughs and cheers.
Well played and Good bye my old friend – Bardhi Seevaratnam
