Obituary of Timothy Francis Andrew Galvon

May 20, 1957 – Olds, Alberta

September 25, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Timothy “Tim” Galvon, beloved father, brother, friend, and teacher of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the age of 67 years.

Tim was born in Olds, AB, on May 20, 1957. He lived in several places throughout his life, from Yellowknife, NT, to Victoria, BC, and Nashville, Tennessee, USA. However, he chose to settle close to home in Calgary, AB, in 2003.

Tim had a passion for teaching and turned his passion into a career. Before he was a teacher, he worked in a variety of jobs including a bartender, a tour bus guide, and a ramp rat. Tim excelled as a tour bus driver, earning a trip to Japan.

Tim graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education in 1994 and a Master of Education from Tennessee State University in 1999. For the majority of his career, Tim specialized in teaching children with mental health challenges and behavioural concerns, with the goal of reintegrating them into the typical classroom. Tim loved his work and found it immensely rewarding, retiring in 2022. He continued as a substitute teacher, saying it was all the joy of teaching with none of the work.

Tim was a faithful member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church. When he was younger Tim enjoyed running and participating in marathons. As he got older, he enjoyed the occasional fishing trip, either solo or with his daughter. Tim loved travelling to warm climates at every chance he got, especially snorkelling destinations. He also enjoyed beer and cheering on the Tennessee Titans.

Tim accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his Master’s degree, his teaching career, and his daughter.

Tim is survived by his daughter Riley, and her mother Margo Frizzell. He is also survived by his six siblings, Mary Jo Grassick, Michael (Terry Ann) Galvon, Dr. Dennis (Julie) Galvon, Theresa (Glen) Tucker, Patricia (Terry) Schmunk, Cathy (Dave) Petek; as well as many nieces, nephews, and his best friend Murray McDonald.

Tim was predeceased by his parents, Bridget and Henry Galvon, his nephew Connor Frizzell, his niece Holly Galvon, and good friend Darcy Ruff.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church (1407 Seventh Ave NW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Lower Hall of the Church.
