Obituary of Peter Ronald Salmon

April 8, 1942 – Toronto, Ontario

October 3, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Peter Salmon, beloved husband of Mia Salmon (nee Wiggers), peacefully passed away at the home he built in 1984, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 82 years, after a long battle with dementia.

Born in Toronto, ON, Peter was the son of Doris (nee Burton) and Clifford Salmon. He spent his formative years in Ontario, with two years in Australia. In 1965 he met Mia, the love of his life, in Oshawa, ON, and they married in 1968. Peter graduated from Ryerson University in 1969 with a business degree.

Peter began his career in the accounting department of Kimberly-Clark in Toronto before moving on to Orsi Construction, where he served as office manager and later as Vice President of a small company within the ORSI group. In 1977, he relocated with his wife and children to Calgary to build a project for Pioneer Log Homes, which took a year to complete.

Inspired by a news story about a family facing hidden structural problems in a newly purchased home, Peter founded Home-Alyze in December 1978, marking the beginning of the home inspection profession in Western Canada. He became a professional consultant and was a pioneer in establishing the home inspection profession in Canada, launching Home-Alyze as a franchise business in 1999.

An avid philanthropist, Peter worked closely with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI), and the Canadian Franchise Association. He cherished spending time with his family and enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, and taking Sunday drives. His favourite saying was, "Pack up the kids, pack up the skis, we're going to Lake Louise."

Peter is survived by his loving wife Mia, his children, Angie (Greg), Paul (Karen), Leah (Jason), and Tracy (Jeromy); and nine grandchildren, Holly, Evan, Nicholas (Samantha), Elliot, Alister, Shae, Thomas, Joshua, and Nathan. He is also survived by his sister Gail. He was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Cliff Salmon.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Calgary Dementia Care team, especially Colleen and Kim, the Palliative Care team, and the Senior Home Care by Angels team, Louise and Fola, as well as Qualicare for their compassionate care.
