Obituary of Marguerite Emily Bailey
December 1, 1926 – Calgary, Alberta
October 2, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta
When Mom was born, the nurses told everyone "Mary had a little Lamb". Margie was born December 1, 1926, to Norman and Mary Lamb.
Margie grew up in Sunnyside until her father’s passing in 1937. Mom had a favourite story about her travelling one summer on a train by herself across Canada when she was 11 years old to stay with her Aunt Dolly in Michigan. This allowed her Mother to work during the summer months to support them.
Once her mother remarried, life was easier, and she stayed in Calgary. Margie worked for Eaton’s as a comptometer operator until she married the love of her life, Herb Bailey. They met at the outdoor skating rink in Sunnyside and were married on January 4, 1946, until Dad's passing in 2014.
Mom and Dad spent many years travelling in their RV, but the most special spot was at Twin Lakes in Idaho. They also travelled to Europe and Asia before retirement.
Mom was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing wonderful meals, especially desserts. Black Forest Cakes were baked for everyone's birthday.
Margie is survived by her children, Jim (Marilyn) and Kerri (Darryl), grandchildren, Joelene and Scott, great-grandchildren, Breana and Sierra, and sister-in-law Penny.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Mary and Norman, stepfather Art, and brother Ed.
Thank you very much to the staff at Hawthorne in Cochrane for the excellent care you gave Mom.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Margie’s family here.
In living memory of Margie Bailey, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
