Obituary of Edeltraud Rosemarie Kuhnlein

June 9, 1938 - Breslau, Germany

October 3, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Edeltraud Rosemarie Kuhnlein of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the age of 86 years.

Rosemarie was born in the former German city of Breslau on June 9, 1938, to parents, Walter and Martha Neumann. Rosemarie and her family eventually ended up in Berlin, where she attended high school and graduated with her ‘Abitur’ certificate. As a teenager, she enjoyed listening to jazz artists like Sidney Bechet, and learning to speak English. This proved to be very useful when Rosemarie immigrated to Calgary, Canada, in 1958, starting out as a live-in nanny and then moving on to work as a billing representative at Alberta Government Telephones.

She soon met her beloved husband Karl, got married, and had two young sons. Rosemarie was the quintessential homemaker, doting on her kids and husband, while keeping an immaculately clean house, cooking up wonderful meals, and baking lots of delicious treats for ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’ sessions. When grandkids came around, she was particularly proud and revelled in the weekly ‘Omi and Opa’ days, where numerous hours were spent at the park, in the backyard, or around the house playing Lego or Hot Wheels.

Rosemarie loved to travel, and with Karl, she visited almost every corner of the globe, usually on a Holland America cruise ship. She also enjoyed getting together with her friends at the condo complex and playing Canasta, Quiddler, and dominos every week.

Rosemarie was predeceased by her loving husband Karl, and sister Ruth (Werner).

She is survived by her sons, Roy (Betty Ann) and Glen (Desirée); sister Evi (Werner), brothers, Klaus (Gisela) and Jürgen (Krista); her adored grandchildren; Eddie, Robbie, Bennett, and Matthew and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her warmth, love, joyful spirit, and fierce desire to win at Quiddler, will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5, Telephone: 403- 205-3966, www.cancer.ca/en/.
