Obituary of Alessandro Bonvicini

February 13, 1932 – Pola, Italy

October 3, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Alessandro Bonvicini, beloved husband of Silvana Bonvicini (nee Ceccarini), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the age of 92 years.

Alessandro was born in Pola, Italy (now Croatia), on February 13, 1932. He graduated from Istituto Tecnico Commerciale Crescenzi Bologna with a diploma in Geometra and then earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The University of Tulsa.

Alessandro married Silvana in 1957. He immigrated to Canada in 1967.

Alessandro had a successful career as a geophysicist, working from 1956 until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists and a dedicated volunteer at St. Michael Catholic Community.

In his free time, he enjoyed stamp collecting, building model trains, and writing. His passion for writing led him to create memorable stories and poems for his family and friends.

Together with Silvana, he enjoyed living and travelling abroad in Europe, North Africa, the United States, Jamaica, Mexico, Ecuador, and Argentina, making cherished memories along the way.

Alessandro will always be remembered for his love for his family. Besides his loving wife, Alessandro is survived by his two children, Andrew (Monique) and Antonella (Rafael). He was a devoted grandfather to his six grandchildren, Jonathan, Steven, Benjamin, Nicholas, Stephanie (Aman), and Gillian. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Abigail and Evelyn.

Alessandro was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched with his unique humour and kindness.

The family is very grateful to the Foothills Medical Centre - Unit 32 for their wonderful care and support.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 – 85th Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
