July 12, 1944 – Calgary, Alberta

October 5, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Sadly, Bryan passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Bryan leaves behind his three children, Scott (Dianne), Terri (Kevin), and Lisa, his grandchildren Jamie (Joshua), Brycen, Jordan, Kennedy, Brianna and Jenna, and great-grandchildren, Rylee, Waylon and Wyatt, his sister Eleanor, brother Guy (Shirley) and numerous nieces and nephews. Bryan is predeceased by his beloved wife Greta, brother Robert, sister Beverly (Art), and sister Elaine.

Bryan was born to Bill and Margaret Breckenridge on July 12, 1944. Born and raised in Calgary, Bryan attended Henry Wise Wood High School. He joined the Canadian Reserves and was a Corporal with The King’s Own Calgary Regiment. Bryan was also a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285 for many years. Bryan took his steam engineering ticket and throughout his lifetime, held various jobs, including homesteading in Peace River. Bryan worked as an operator for Western Coop Fertilizer, a custodian with the Calgary Board of Education and became an instructor for employment programs at the Alberta Vocational College. Bryan also maintained his own janitorial and supply business for 50 years.

Bryan married Greta MacDougall on January 9, 1965, and they raised their family in the same home he resided in for 60 years. Bryan enjoyed his family, was available and offered his support in their daily lives. He enjoyed making his rounds and never missed an opportunity to gather or drop in for a visit with his siblings and friends. He and Greta often visited family in Huxley.

Bryan actively pursued many athletic and creative interests. He was an avid curler who started young as a family sport with his dad. Bryan played as Skip for his teams, playing on Sundays at the Acadia Recreation Complex. Bryan also loved to ski and enjoyed teaching his kids to ski. He pursued flying lessons, and had an artistic talent, creating landscape paintings.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Southwood Care Centre for their exemplary care, kindness and support in his final days.
