Obituary of Donna Marlene Ledgerwood

June 20, 1948 – Swift Current, Saskatchewan

October 6, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Donna Marlene Ledgerwood of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the age of 76 years.

Donna was born in Swift Current, SK, to Archie and Pearl Ledgerwood on June 20, 1948. She graduated from high school at Sheldon Williams Collegiate and went on to the nursing program at Regina General Hospital. Later she completed her Bachelor studies at the University of Lethbridge and completed her Master's in Hospital Epidemiology and Community Health Sciences at U of C. She spent one year at Canadian Bible College. Her nursing career took her as far north as Pine Point, NWT and eventually to Calgary where she spent the majority of her years working with the Infection Prevention and Control team at AHS.

Donna loved family, people, children, and her cats. “Aunty Donna” would often be found embracing every opportunity to enjoy and support the celebrations of her beloved and extended family. Throughout the years Donna was very involved in her church and would be capturing the attention of so many little children as she enthusiastically shared the biblical stories of her faith. Later in retirement, she cuddled and poured love into tiny preemie babies at the Peter Lougheed Center.

Donna loved her role as a greeter in the White Hat Volunteer Program at the Calgary Airport. Many a tired or lost passenger would be welcomed by her big smile and helpfulness. During Covid, she came out of retirement and was instrumental in helping and teaching physicians and staff on how to protect themselves from the deadly infection.

Donna had a passion for travelling and entertainment. One would often find her returning from an amazing cruise, planning another adventure with friends or family, or attending Theatre productions and Spruce Meadows.

Donna is survived by her brother Archie, (Ruth) of Regina, SK, nephew Ryan (Teri) of Calgary, AB, niece Raylene (Samatha) of Langley, BC, and chosen nieces, Jamie (Mark) and Taniesha (Kale) Ens . She was preceded in death by her father Archie Ledgerwood and her mother Pearl Ledgerwood.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held in Regina, SK.
