Obituary of Elaine Askew

May 14, 1936 – October 8, 2024

Elaine Askew of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, to be with her heavenly Father at the age of 88 years.

Elaine was born in Lethbridge, AB, on May 14, 1936, the third of four children of Almond and Margaret Askew. She grew up on a farm outside Nobleford, AB. Elaine loved her farm life growing up and maintained loving relationships with her family throughout her life.

In 1960, Elaine moved to Calgary and worked at the Calgary General Hospital. She was highly respected at work and was known for being very caring and professional. Valued friendships with her colleagues were maintained, even up until her last days in hospice.

Elaine’s daughter Robin was born in 1960, and she worked hard to ensure a loving and safe home to care for her small family.

She was very generous to others, yet content with no more than she needed for herself. Over the course of her life, she was deeply devoted to her growing family; their well-being was always her concern. She was a cornerstone of all family events, and each child blessed to call her “Great-Grandma” delighted in her company.

Elaine deeply appreciated her friends and kept in touch with them, even though recent issues restricted her mobility. She loved gardening and jigsaw puzzles, had a keen mind for long conversations on any topic, and was a die-hard fan of the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders. Overall and through all, Elaine’s life was guided and seasoned by her love and devotion to the Lord.

Elaine is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughter Robin Sorenson (Leon); granddaughter Laina McAusland (Curtis); grandson Cameron Sorenson (Adele); and grandchildren, Ellie and Maris (Laina and Curtis), Maurizio and Allegra (Cameron and Adele); her older sister Carol Mentanko; her younger brother Blaine Askew (Leita); as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Almond and Margaret Askew, and her sister Eleanor Bernard.

Funeral Services will be held at The Salvation Army Berkshire Citadel Community Church (222 Sandarac Dr NW, Calgary, AB), on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
