Obituary of William James Borden
William James Borden passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born in Saskatoon, SK, William lived a full and adventurous life, living and travelling across Canada and beyond. He attended higher education in Boston, where he studied computer engineering, and later settled in Calgary, AB, where he continued his education at the University of Calgary.
At the age of 19, William joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving for 10 years. His service took him to England, where he worked on Sabre Jets as an Air Force Engineer. Upon his return to Canada, he held the rank of Corporal and was an accomplished marksman and sharpshooter, participating in full-bore target rifle shooting competitions. His precision and skill in marksmanship were a source of pride.
William was an active man never wanting to stay in one place for too long. He enjoyed skiing, curling, golfing, bridge, and chess, and was a dedicated member of the Elks for many years. He also had a great appreciation for music, which brought him much joy over the years.
William was a complex and charming man and always wanted the best for his children. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their two daughters, Lindsey (Alan) and Jennifer (Ryan), and their adored grandchildren.
William is also survived by his eldest daughter, Dawn, his sons, Bruce and Doug, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter, Barbara, and his parents, Earl and Janet.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him; he leaves lasting life lessons that have made us all stronger.
A private family service was held in his honour.
