My mother was Gertrude Mary "Jean" (Backs) Phillips and she worked with Doreen at the Royal Bank starting in 1948. They became great friends as well as co-workers. Doreen and Bill arranged a double-date which introduced my Mom to my Dad, Russell Hilton Phillips. Mom always spoke highly of her friend Doreen and liked her and Bill very much. My sympathies to the Hammond family.

Your mom was the 'office mom' to us in the Psychology Department, never failing to greet everyone when she popped in. Would take time for a chat when meeting other places too. And she was brave - Karen, do you remember telling us about your mom shovelling snow off her roof when she was already 'old'?

Doreen was a very special lady for us. She was always so enthusiastic and curious about everything (What is that? My isn't that interesting). We had lots of fun with her: watching football games on TV, climbing Nose Hill for her 96th birthday, dinner dates and many more times just visiting. Her love of her community was very strong and she was involved with the Banff Trail Board of Directors until she couldn't anymore.

She will be greatly missed by us.

Doreen was part of our daily life at Capitol Food Store. She always had a bright smile and made us giggle with her stories. Doreen was part of the Banff Trail pack of strong, powerful women -- watch out world, here they come, doing great things. Our Mom and Dad will welcome you in the skies above. I am so deeply sorry to hear of Doreen's passing. I was just over for a visit on Sunday for her birthday. May God Rest her soul. She was an amazing lady. She had such wit and charm. Her memory was outstanding, and I loved listening to her stories of what Banff Trail was like and how she contributed to our community. She will never be forgotten. She reminded me of my mother whom I just lost at 97 yrs old. We talked about her often and I often talked about Doreen with my mom. Although she is gone, she has a very special place in my heart. Until we meet again beautiful lady. Sending hugs and prayers to the family.
