Obituary of Marie Ethel Brown
April 25, 1935 – Calgary, Alberta
October 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Brown of Calgary, AB, on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 89 years, with her loving daughters by her side.
Marie will be forever treasured and missed by her daughters, Ashleigh (David) Whitworth and Dena Brown; granddaughter Caprice Brown, and her numerous beloved family members, friends, and neighbours.
She was predeceased by her husband Fred, son Cameron, parents, Claud and Faith Traxler; sisters, Grace, Ruth, and Claudia; brothers, Cliff and Grant; as well as her brother-in-law Cliff, and sisters-in-law, Lillian DeMeester and Betty Rathwell; nieces, Laurie, Karen, Vickie, and Dianne; nephew Larry, and many other friends and extended family.
Marie was born in Calgary and grew up on her family farm in Etzikom, AB. She also resided in Coaldale, High River, Medicine Hat, and Turner Valley. The family moved to Calgary in 1967, where she spent the rest of her life.
With her soft-spoken, gentle, kind, and caregiving ways, she will forever be known for her never-ending smiles, generosity, and willingness to help anyone. Whether driving friends and family to appointments or participating in all her children’s events, including Cubs, Girl Guides, sporting events and concerts, she was always happy to be involved. She loved family reunions, holidays, special occasions, and celebrating birthdays, remembering everyone’s birthday with a card. She was up for anything to do with visiting and having fun with family, friends, and neighbours. She especially enjoyed going out for lunch or dinner with her dear brother Bill and his family.
Though Marie retired several years ago, she started her working career as a telephone operator. She also helped her grandfather in his post office and then became quite the entrepreneur so she could meet and make new friends in the new towns they moved to. She sold Avon and Tupperware, taught Sunday School, and eventually had a successful career in banking, where she made many lifelong friends.
Marie enjoyed a laid-back lifestyle. She loved horses, babies, road trips, numerous and varied studies, and was our esteemed family historian, creating beautiful and articulate family tree artwork for her three children. She took many courses, including interior and clothing design, art, and natural medicine, where her natural gift of healing flourished.
