Obituary of Mervyn Brian Meade

Mervyn Meade, beloved husband of Pamela Meade (nee Staples) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
Mervyn was born in Portsmouth, UK, on April 26, 1939. His education led him to an apprenticeship with the Co-op, qualifying as an Approved Electrician.
He immigrated to Calgary, Canada, in 1966 for the first time with Pamela and Malcolm. Upon arriving in Calgary, Mervyn secured employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway Company as an Electrical Engineer. During this time the family grew with the arrival of their youngest son, Richard.
Pamela and Mervyn decided to return to England in 1970, where he worked in the fire and security industry until retirement. Approaching 2002, and nearing retirement, Calgary beckoned again. The decision was made to return for retirement.
Mervyn married Pamela in 1961. During this time, he picked up his friendship with lifelong friends Tony and Carol, often attending the Portsmouth Football Club matches together. Football was the second love of his life.
Both Pam and Mervyn enjoyed the social events at the local Masonic Hall, where they would dance the night away. Mervyn excelled in his Masonic career, eventually being honored by the Province of Hampshire and Isles of Wight English Constitution with the Provincial Collar of Past Provincial Assistant Director of Ceremonies.
During these years most of Mervyn’s time was spent on Family, Football, and Freemasonry, holding several offices within his Mother Lodge and other degrees.
Besides his loving wife, Pamela, Mervyn is survived by his son Malcolm and daughter-in-law Sarah of Calgary, AB, his son Richard of Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK. He is also survived by his granddaughter Lisa and her husband David, of Whiteley, Hampshire, UK, his granddaughter Harriet, of Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, and his grandson Milo, of Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, as well as his great-grandson Charlie, of Whiteley, Hampshire, UK, his great-granddaughter Abigail, of Whiteley, Hampshire, UK, his nephew Timothy Davies, Timothy’s partner Nicola, and his great nephew, Rafferty, of Haywards Heath, West Sussex, UK.
Mervyn was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Lillian Meade, and his sister Diane.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Mervyn's Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
Please note, it is Mervyn’s request that no black attire be worn. Family flowers only.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the pancreatic cancer, heart, or diabetes charity of their choice.
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Meade’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
