Andrew Leithner of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 66 years.
Andrew was born in Calgary on June 5, 1958. At a young age, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball at the local rink in the Parkdale area of northwest Calgary, where he lived with his mom, dad, brother John, and sister Sue.
In 1988, Andrew volunteered for the XV Olympic Winter Games held in Calgary and was assigned to work with the CBC broadcasting crew. This experience sparked his interest in media, and in 1989, Andrew received a diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Stage, Film, and Video Production, and Radio, Television and Broadcast News. He went on to work on multiple local films and ads from 1989 to 1992.
In 1992, he became a bus driver for Calgary Handy-Bus, a position he held until his retirement in 2013.
One of Andrew’s most memorable vacations was a trip he took with his mother back to her birthplace in Hungary.
In his later years, Andrew was very excited and overjoyed on weekends when the family gathered, allowing him to interact with the young kids and other family members.
Andrew is survived by his sister Sue Morrow, brother-in-law Bill Morrow, nephew PJ Morrow and his wife Cassie, and their three children Ana, Dylan, and Cody. He is also survived by his niece Teana Lindsay and her husband Kevin, and their son Kade.
Andrew was predeceased by his brother John, his father Joe, and his mother Maria.
