Obituary of Leilani Marguerite Laurie
April 22, 1941 – Vancouver, British Columbia
October 20, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leilani Laurie after a courageous struggle with cancer. Leilani was a remarkable soul who throughout her 83 years of life, touched the hearts of many.
She spent 30 years with Air Canada, dedicating herself to ensuring the comfort and happiness of countless travelers. Her compassion knew no bounds, as she went out of her way to assist not only those traveling with Air Canada but anyone in need.
Leilani’s kindness, generosity, and selflessness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Leilani was a true fashionista, with a passion for travel, and visited places most of us only dream of. Her travels started early in life with countless trips to Hawaii since her father was a pilot for CP Air. Later in life, with her career in the airline industry, she traveled to many exotic locations including Bali, Singapore, Jakarta, Machu Picchu, Kashmir, and Moscow. However, Maui and the yearly sales at Harrods were always her favourites.
Leilani was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Marge Laurie, sister Bonnie (Heiberg), and sister-in-law Carole (Laurie). She is survived by brother Gary Laurie, sister Shirley Thorner (Paul), brother Bruce Laurie, sister Pamela Laurie, and their families. Also, by her special sister-in-law Anne Laurie of Kelowna, and her Calgary family Curtis, Debralee, Elyse, Jessica, and Matthew Fernets. She will also be missed by her special friends Bill Meyer, and Laurie and Tom Helmeczi. Leilani enjoyed a very close friendship with her group of friends from Air Canada, particularly with her dearest friends Liz Smith (Charter), Adele Wallace (Jim), and Michael Cush, her longtime travel partner.
