Obituary of Orvel Keith YONTZ

Rev. Orvel Yontz, beloved husband of Hazel Yontz of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the age of 92 years.
Orvel was born in Hayter, Alberta, the third child of Simon and Mollie Yontz. As a young man, he attended Prairie Bible Institute, where he felt God’s calling to spread the Gospel. He joined Unevangelized Fields Mission (Crossworld) and went to Brazil to be a missionary. It was there that he met and married Hazel in 1950.
Together, they raised four children, Laura, Bob, Sylvia and Dan. After retiring from active mission work in Brazil, Orvel represented Crossworld in Western Canada and with Hazel, continued to host visiting missionaries in their home. They also participated in the International Student Ministries, in Calgary, Alberta. Orvel’s heart was always in mission work, church planting, and mentoring the Christian leaders of the future. Orvel will be remembered as a man of God, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
Besides his loving wife of sixty-four years, Orvel is survived by four children, Laura de Menezes, Bob (Karen) Yontz, Sylvia Yontz and Dan (Mellani) Yontz; grandchildren, Cahina, Alanna and Ryan. He is also survived by his elder sister Florence Oswald, and numerous nieces and nephews. Orvel was predeceased by his sister Velma Elliott and his parents.
