Obituary of Linda Knox : RN

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Linda on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, AB.

A native of St. Brendan’s, Newfoundland, she lived in Gambo and St. John’s while completing her education and training. Linda graduated from the Grace General Hospital School of Nursing in 1981. She started her nursing career in Yellowknife and moved to Calgary in 1984 to take a position in the ICU at Alberta Children’s Hospital. In 1989, she moved into clinical research in the ICU at the Foothills Hospital and later into respiratory research at the University of Calgary.

Linda will be remembered for her kind heart, her love of family, friends, and colleagues, and her willingness to provide medical and cooking advice to us all. She always gave exemplary support to her work colleagues, and she provided compassionate nursing care and ongoing encouragement to all who were lucky enough to be among her patients. 

Linda is survived by her loving spouse Barry Winger, her stepchildren, Bryan (Sara and their children, Conrad and Ian), and Madison (Sim); her brothers and sisters, Rita (Greg), Beth (Terry), Cathy (Si), Wayne (Trudy), Ange, Tom, Frank (Candace), and Karen; and her brother-in-law Len Furlong. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Ellen Knox, her sisters, Marie and Mary; her brother-in-law Don, and her beloved canine companion Buddy.

She had warm and nurturing relationships with her numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and longtime friends, Gisele Kyne, Susie Greco, Peggy Beresford, and Hilda Rideout, and their families.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to friends Gisele and Susie, for their loving support for Linda as she navigated her journey with cancer. 

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held in Newfoundland at a later date.
