Obituary of Theresia Helen Planicka
August 24, 1934 – Bodo, Alberta
October 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Theresia Helen Planicka (nee Wotschell), the beloved wife of Tony and loving mother of Tony Jr., passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the age of 90 years.
Born and raised on the family farm near Bodo, AB, she was one of fourteen children born to her parents, Cornelius and Mary Wotschell. After completing school, Theresia moved to Red Deer, AB, and worked with Alberta Government Telephones. There she met her future husband, Tony Planicka. They were married on her birthday, August 24, 1963. Their son, Tony Jr., was born in 1965.
Theresia was a hardworking, devoted homemaker dedicated to her family and caring for them. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, refurnishing furniture and collecting coins, stamps, books and records. Perhaps her favourite hobby was discovering her family genealogy. Learning about her ancestors’ journeys fascinated her and she would try to gather as much information as possible to research her family tree.
Theresia is survived by her loving son Tony Jr., daughter-in-law Ivy, and sister-in-law Elsie Wotschell. Her memory is cherished by her grandchildren, Veronica and Josh.
A devoted daughter, Theresia, was predeceased by her parents, Cornelius and Mary.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 90 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 90 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
Graveside Service will be held in the St. Joseph’s section of Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB) immediately after the reception.
If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society through St. Cecilia’s to assist those in need. The Parish can be contacted at (403) 252-2790.
