Obituary of Christine Loretta Thomson
June 9, 1950 – Port Arthur, Ontario
October 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Christine Loretta Thomson (nee Eddy), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She passed on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at AgeCare Bow Crest Continuing Care home in Calgary, AB, with her family by her side.
Christine was born on June 9, 1950, in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), ON. She was raised with her nine siblings and was known as a second mother to them. She graduated from Confederation College's Social Service Program and worked for Marymound, a youth social services organization in Winnipeg, MB.
In 1973, Christine married David Thomson and a few years later moved to Thunder Bay, ON, where she worked for Children’s Aid Society. Looking to escape the city, they settled in the farming community of Slate River Valley and continued to raise their family there. Many fond memories were had living in Slate River including wrangling loose cows roaming their property, harvesting asparagus for the neighbouring farm, and selling cheese for her children's school fundraiser as head of the PTA.
In 1990, Christine and David packed up their son Brendan and daughter Erin to go live in Calgary, AB. There the family went on many camping trips in the summer and weekend ski outings in the winter. Chrissy's love for music and the outdoors was known by all.
Christine is survived by her husband of 51 years, David, son Brendan (Gillian Prince), daughter Erin (Christopher Niccolls), and her third-generation redhead granddaughter Madelyn Niccolls. She is also survived by siblings, Mary Curtis (Victor), John Eddy (Olivia), Elizabeth Edwards (Bill), Robert Eddy (Sharon), Phyllis Holdsworth (Chris), Herman Eddy, and Kenneth Eddy. She will be missed by in-laws on the Thomson side of the family and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Christine is predeceased by her parents, John and Dorothy Eddy (Nicholson), her brothers, Jimmy and Philip, her infant sister Margaret, and her nephew Allan Curtis.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at AgeCare Bow Crest Continuing Care Home for their compassion and wonderful care for our precious Chrissy.
