Obituary of Eric William Green

November 18, 1940 – Darlington, County Durham, England

October 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Eric Green, beloved husband of Jean Green (nee Emerson), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the age of 83 years.

Eric was born in Darlington, County Durham, England, on November 18, 1940. He married Jean Emerson, his life partner and love of his life, on June 1, 1963, in England, and this year they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

After graduating from Darlington Technical College in 1956, he began working as a structural steel draftsman with Dorman Long in

Middlesbrough, where he completed his apprenticeship. He later worked with Bolton and Paul in Norwich, England.

Eric immigrated with his family to Calgary in 1977. In Calgary, he continued his career as a structural steel draftsman, working with Triangle Steel, Glenmore Steel Fabricators, and Canfer Rolling Mills. He was particularly proud of his contributions to the steel roof of the Saddledome and the Fish Creek Public Library.

Woodworking was a passion for Eric, and he loved spending time in his garage building projects. His skills were invaluable in helping his son, Richard, grow his new home construction company and later supporting both Richard and Janette with their renovation business. Eric also enjoyed many hobbies, including golf, fishing, and watercolor painting—a skill he taught himself during retirement. His beautiful paintings are cherished mementos for family and friends, many of whom display his gifted artwork on their walls.

Besides his loving wife Jean, Eric is survived by his son Richard and his daughter Janette, grandchildren Stephanie, Adam, and Shayona; as well as his great-grandson Hudson.

Eric was predeceased by his parents, Vera and Ernest Green, and his brother Dennis Wheatley Green.

Jean and family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Chinook Care Centre, Dr. Celis, and a special thank you to his dearest friend Gary Williamson who was by Eric’s side every day, telling stories and lifting his spirits.
