Kathleen Emma Martin was born to Charles and Margaret Lyons on December 5, 1929, in Galahad, AB. She passed away in Calgary, AB, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the age of 94 years.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Margaret, Eileen, Elizabeth, Nora, Jackie, and Jonathon; and her brother, Bill. She was predeceased by her husband, John, two children, Edward and Mary/Hope, her mother and father, brothers, James and John, and sisters, Rosemary, Marjorie, and Beatrice.
Her hobbies and activities included sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She enjoyed sewing matching dresses for her daughters and crocheting/knitting blankets for her grandchildren. Her most memorable vacation was a trip to the Holy Land at the age of 87 with her daughter Elizabeth.
Kathleen was a proud grandmother of eighteen grandchildren, Amy, Ian, Elizabeth, Andrea, Jon, Stephanie, Anthony, Susanne, Matthew, Alexandra, Chrissie, James, Karen, Vincent, Sheldon, Melanie, Douglas, and Gary; and a proud great-grandmother of eleven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Gage, Petra, Brooklyn, Harrison, Blaire, Blake, iO, Theodore, Dominik, and Adrianna.
Kathleen was known for her kindness to others. She will be remembered for her generous and caring nature. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Kathleen took pride in her ability to remember the birthdays of her multiple family members. She was also a very avid recycler. She set a great example for her children by always reusing tinfoil and plastic bags. Paper grocery bags were repurposed to wrap parcels or make ‘soldier’ suits for the kids. We also learned how to make paper mâché and paper hats out of old newspapers, when they were not being used for the bottom of the bird cage for her beloved canaries.
The family extends their gratitude to Prominence Way Retirement Community, which was her home in the final years of her life.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community Church (800 85 St SW, Calgary, AB), on Friday, November 8, 2024, 11:30 a.m. with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery, at 3:00 p.m.
