Obituary of Barb Reid
May 14, 1948 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
November 4, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Barbara Ann Reid of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the age of 76 years.
Barbara was born in Moosejaw, SK, on May 14, 1948. She created a beautiful life with her daughters in Calgary, AB, spreading happiness and compassion in every adventure she embarked on. Barb made friends with everyone she met, humans and animals.
Barb spent much of her life working in healthcare. First, with Environmental Services. She worked double shifts to save enough to pay and complete her Nursing Attendant Course through NAIT. Barb was so proud to cross the stage to receive her certificate caring for seniors, which is her lifelong passion. In her last days, she returned to the very hospital she served in. The staff on Unit 53 at Peter Lougheed opened their loving arms to Barb and treated us like family.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her friends from her building, feeding the squirrels, country music night, Bingo night, or just plain socializing. Barb loved to organize social activities and created “Ice Cream Day.” Which is a huge hit. She recently spent time with her sisters in their hometown, where they enjoyed great food, reminiscing and a lot of laughs.
Barbara’s true love of her life are her six grandchildren, Tiffany Martinson (Scott), Kelly Giem, Ashley Martinson, Wesley Giem-Feininger (Vanna), Cameron Young, Tayte Schenk-Blixt, as well as her great-grandchildren, Vakila, Carter, Brie, Kegan, Aryana, and Belah.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kimberley Blixt (Jeffrey) of Calgary, AB; Barbara is also survived by her seven sisters, Bonnie, Diane, Sherry, Sue, Shelley, Debbie, and Kathi; her brother Kevin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Barbara was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Lori Lynn Martinson, and her mother, Mavis Reid. Her brothers, Donald Reid, Randy Reid, and Larry Reid, as well as her sister, Tammy Smid.
A gathering in Barb’s memory will be held at a later date; details will be shared with family and friends closer to the event. In the meantime, we thank everyone for their love and support.
