Obituary of Eric Milton McLean

September 18, 1954 – New Westminister, British Columbia

November 4, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Eric McLean, much-loved husband and best friend of Christine McLean, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Eric was born in New Westminster, BC, on September 18, 1954, to loving parents, Dilys and Milton McLean.

Eric’s early years were spent working or fishing, escaping to the interior of BC with its pristine lakes and wild bush parties. This is where he met Christine; in Clearwater, BC, in 1975. They fell head over heels and married soon after.

Eric’s life had such fantastic swings we could write a book. He showed his family and the people closest to him about strength and resilience and how to start again.

In 1997 Eric found his purpose; a spiritual path that would have a profound impact on his family and all the people he touched. At his passing, he was 27 years sober. He never hesitated to share his experience, strength, and hope wherever it was needed.  

Eric was a determined and focused businessman, building a thriving business from the ground up. Grooming and molding his children to carry the flame. A legacy to be passed on for generations.

In 2012, Eric’s dream of having a home in the backcountry of BC in the Cariboo on a fishing lake became a reality. He and Christine spent as much time there as possible; it was where he wanted to be - spending lazy summer days and magical Christmases with family at his side. He was the fish finder and the fire stoker.

Eric is survived by his loving wife Christine, his children, Matthew (Victoria), Stephanie (Bryce), and Catherine (Teddy); his beloved grandchildren, Madisyn, Jackson, Mac, and Knox; and many extended family members.
