Condolences
I have many wonderful memories of Sheila over our kids dancing years and then with the Calgary games. She was so welcoming and friendly. Many a tea time was spent at her house while we did our volunteering stint. . Her smile lit up a room and her love of our homeland shone through. The saddest disease is dementia as it robbed her of so many of the joys of her later years and none more than experiencing life with her little granddaughter. Ken, Lorna and Kirsty you were all your mothers joy. Rest In Peace my friend. You deserved so much more .
Rest in peace Auntie Sheila and from my earliest memories of meeting you in the ‘Rumdum’ (Dumbarton) when Kirsty was not even on the scene to various other trips to Scotland and my one venture to Canada in 2003 you always made me feel so welcome and truly one of the family. My memories are of a happy, fun loving person who lived life to the full and you will be sorely missed by all in Canada, Scotland and beyond…. Lots of love Richard Githa and Skye xxx
We have all missed Sheila’s beautiful smile for many years and now, thankfully, she is a peace.
I will always remember and treasure, the fun times we had as part of the Calgary Highland Games Committee and anything to do with Highland dancing. She carried on her Scottish heritage with pride!
The Brazier family all send our heartfelt sympathy to you all.
I was introduced to the Highland dance world by a friend and immediately formed a friendship with Lorna, Kirsty and Muma Sheila. She always made me feel welcome and encouraged me to dance with the adult group. I really enjoyed her company and our annual Christmas cookie exchanges. She always had a smile and a warm welcome every time I saw her. I really enjoyed the moments I got to spend with her and will always remember her fondly. Sending her entire family my heartfelt condolences and much love. She was a wonderful woman.
I have many fond memories of Sheila through the highland years, but my fondest memory is of the day we met … as newcomers to the Calgary highland scene. Our first meeting of that year’s competition committee … All the new members had M names - Marg, Mary, Marie, Marion and Mona … and then Sheila. We had no trouble remembering her name!! I always smile when I think of that. She was such a lovely person.
I never would have been brave enough to take up Highland Dance as an adult were it not for Muma Sheila's warm welcome and encouraging presence.
Valerie and I will miss our friend Sheila , we had some memorable times with Sheila and Stuart visiting in Calgary and their visits to St Catharines and our holiday together in Dominican which will always be in our memories also our trip to Banff when they hosted us for the Calgary stampede. We will miss the Queen. Our sincerest sympathy to Stuart , Lorna , Kenneth and Kirsty
Our gentle condolences to all of the Thakreys. Sheila was so special to us~ and such a beautiful and lovely lady she was, and always will be be in our hearts.
With kind and gentle thoughts to you all, just know how fortunate we always felt to be a wee part of her wonderful life.
Love, Will and Jo
Guys, you had the most kind and loving mother possible in Shiela. She was a whisker older than me and I was in awe as she was the glamerous and sophisticated one of the three of us (Shiela, David and me (Lynn) cousins.) That never changed! I loved our holidays together, in Scotland or Yorkshire and my memories of those years are always fresh and filled with warmth of family and laughter. Love you, girl, thank you for the memories xxx
