Obituary of Jose Afonso Alves

July 2, 1960 – São Miguel, Azores, Portugal

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of José Afonso Alves on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 64 years.

Born on July 2, 1960, in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, José immigrated to Canada in 1973, where he spent his career in the construction industry.

José is survived by his loving mother Venilde Alves, and his siblings, Emanuel Alves (Joyce Decker), Cecilia Deus (Michael Deus), and Paulo Alves (Andrea Collins). He was the proud father of three daughters, Tamara Wood (Jason), Maria José Alves (Miguel Puebla), and Catrina Pacheco (Tony). While much of his life was spent apart from his daughters, his love for them and his pride in their accomplishments remained steadfast. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply.

José will be remembered for his ability to live life in the moment. He embraced the present with an open heart, savouring life’s joys and challenges alike. Always willing to lend a helping hand and unafraid to take risks, José left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (15 Templebow Rd NE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (15 Templebow Rd NE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Entombment Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery Mausoleum (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB).

José’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him to live authentically and cherish each moment. May he rest in peace.
