Obituary of Hari Mohan Kapil

August 15, 1943 – Nahan, India

December 2, 2024 – Heritage Pointe, Alberta

Hari Kapil of Heritage Pointe, AB, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of 81 years, after a heroic fight with Parkinson’s.

Hari was born on August 15, 1943, in Nahan, India. After graduating from Punjab University in 1965 with a Master of Chemistry, the young prince ventured to England where he continued his education at Imperial College of Science and graduated as a Petroleum Reservoir Engineer in 1968.

Hari then moved to Calgary in 1968 where he took on his first job in Canada as Junior Petroleum Engineer for Sproule Associates. At Sproule he would continue his storied career eventually retiring in 2004 in the position of Senior Vice President, Engineering.

In 1970 on a visit to India, Hari met his then queen-to-be, Vijay Kapil. After a few years of courting and countless love letters they would eventually be married in 1973. The two formed a royal couple who would fill people’s lives with love, support and trust.

Hari is survived by his amazing wife Vijay, his two princesses, Sonia and Sarika; his super-strong sons-in-law, Hark and Rahul; and his three biggest fans, his grandchildren, Jayaana, Nikash, and Surina.

Heroes are made by the path they choose, not the powers they are graced with. The path Hari chose was one of unconditional love and support for those around him which made him the hero that he was.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Kapil’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
