Condolences
The members of the Catholic Women’s League at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Grand Bend, Ontario send our sincere condolences on the passing of Bishop Fred Henry. God has called him home, and now he’s enjoying the peace of heaven.
When we were a mission church of St. Christopher’s in Forest, ON (prior to 1982) Father Fred Henry was one of many priests based at St. Peter’s Seminary in London, ON who’d come to help when there were three Sunday Masses during the busy summer months. Many of our parishioners fondly recall that Father Henry was a good speaker and enjoyed chatting about sports!
We are keeping Bishop Henry, his family, friends and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers.
"To The Henry Family of Bishop Fred, Sincere sympathies. I remember him well. He often spoke to us at the Saint Vincent de Paul Conference of St. Anthony of Padua in Harrow, Ontario, especially at Christmas time as we were to embark on delivery food baskets. Being our shepherd I can recall his words, "Err on the side of largess." Peace.
To The Henry Family of Bishop Fred,
Sincere sympathies on the loss of such a great Catholic leader. Bishop Fred was my spiritual director for a time when he was Rector at St Peter's Seminary. He was a good friend to me and my wife,Evelyn, and baptized our youngest son.
We last met in Florida a few years ago and shared a dinner. I admired his courage and wisdom as an outstanding Bishop.
May he rest in peace!

I never had the Opportunity to meet Bishop Henry but certainly heard many positive reflections when I was privileged to work with his brother Leo. My condolences to the Henry extended family.

'Well done, good and faithful servant!' (Matthew 25:21)
May the Lord welcome you into His eternal glory, where His light shines forever. Your charism in preaching will be greatly missed. Your legacy of faith endures
Our Condolences to the family. Thr picture used on the obituary is what comes to mind when we think about the occasions we had time to spend with Bishop Henry. He had a very witty playful sense of humor and loved a good joke and to laugh.
We saw him as a man who lived his life to the fullest; with conviction to his calling and the challenges that came with that but also looking for every opportunity to live it with joy.
Albert & Sharon Riendeau.

Rest in Peace Bishop Henry...I remember my confirmation and my daughters' confirmations with Bishop Henry. He had a way of engaging the young people and had a great sense of humour.
I was very sad to hear the passing of Bishop Henry. Being from London Ontario, I had the pleasure of knowing Bishop Henry first as father Henry, and as the director at Saint Peter‘s and a visitor to Kings College. He was very well known in the London Ontario community and was very open to people at all ages and stages of their life. I can still remember the many silly questions I asked F. Henry as a youth. I hope the extended family will take comfort in the love he shared for god, the church and for those he impacted.
We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Most Rev. Bishop Henry. A true shepherd of faith, he stood as a beacon of justice, moral values, and unwavering belief in Christ. His life was a testament to forgiveness, grace, and a courageous commitment to standing for the truth, even in the face of criticism.
Bishop Henry dedicated his days selflessly to administering the sacraments and guiding countless souls back to the loving arms of God. He reminded us all that there is no other name under heaven given for our salvation but that of Christ, and he boldly proclaimed this truth through his words and actions. His passing is an immense loss to the Church and the faithful across Canada. May we carry forward his legacy of faith and love, inspired by his example. We pray that his soul rests in eternal peace, embraced by the light of Christ he so passionately served.
I was saddened to learn of the death of Bishop Henry. I'm sorry for your loss. I got to know Bishop Fred when he an auxiliary in the Diocese of London. He and I had many lively discussions! I always had great admiration for his fine intellect, passionate convictions and plain-spoken guidance from the pulpit. May he rest in peace.
The Haskett and Henry families have a history that began long before my own childhood memories of visits with Leo and Noreen and their boys on Chester Street in London and later in Port Franks. It has always been my pleasure to reconnect occasionally with Bishop Henry during his Ontario visits to his family, having the honour to have served his family when his parents died, and in good times, particularly recalling a golf game where he certainly was the better golfer. I am thinking of his family with sympathy, and also the Most Reverend William T. McGrattan and all priests and parishioners touched by his life and the legacy he created.
The Haskett Family
Sending sincere condolences to Bishop Fred's Family. He became quick friends of the Hotham Family in Windsor in 1968. It was his first assignment after he was ordained. Him and I enjoyed a number of golf games together before he moved on. He was born to be a leader of the people and it didn't take long to understand that it was his calling. He taught my brother in law (FR.Dennis Wilhelm) at St. Peter's in London back in the day. We as a family are sorry to hear of his passing. May the Lord welcome him to paradise. Well done my good and faithful servant. May he rest in peace..
Bernie and Sue Hotham,Madelyn Stannard,Charlie and Martin Hotham. Keep it in the short grass Bishop.
I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bishop Frederick Henry. He will be sadly missed by all those he touched.
As secretary of Christ the King Church, Windsor, Ontario, I had the privilege of welcoming a very young Father Henry to his first assignment after his ordination as a priest of the Diocese of London in 1968. It did not take long to realize that this young priest was special and it came as no surprise when he was named Auxiliary Bishop of London and in 1998 was installed as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary.
Despite his busy life and health issues, Bishop Henry managed to keep in touch until his emails abruptly ended just a short time before his death.
May he rest in peace.

Our condolences to the Henry family on the loss of their beloved brother Fred. I first met Bishop Henry in London in 1970 through his brother Larry, who was a student in my grade 7 class at Holy Rosary School. Fred brought a powerful presence to every encounter and was always passionate and forceful concerning his faith and issues he was concerned about. I was always most impressed with him and he had a great positive influence on all who knew him, even those who did not always agree with his positions. Bishop Henry made a difference and stood up and was counted, May he rest in peace. May the family, and especially Larry take solace in knowing Fred was a good and faithful servant who deeply loved his fellow man.
The passing of Bishop Frederick Henry is a profound loss for the Diocese of Calgary and for all who were blessed to know him. A true servant of God, Bishop Henry was a faith-filled leader whose courage, wisdom, and love for the Gospel left an indelible mark on the hearts of countless people.
Bishop Henry stood strong for our faith, fearlessly proclaiming the truths of the Gospel even when it meant risking personal cost. He was an excellent homilist and teacher, with a unique ability to inspire, challenge, and guide the faithful. His words were a beacon of hope and clarity, particularly in times of uncertainty.
What made Bishop Henry truly remarkable was his profound love for priests and his respect for every person he encountered. He had a gift for listening, always fair, and always considering both sides of any story, conflict, or issue. For those who sought his prayers, support, or understanding, he was a steady source of compassion and wisdom. On a personal note, I will always treasure his kindness and the strength he offered in moments of need.
Bishop Henry will long be remembered for his unwavering stand against injustices and his unyielding commitment to the Gospel. His legacy challenges us to follow his example, standing up for the words of Jesus, which he so faithfully lived and died for.
I will always hold dear the simple yet profound wisdom he imparted to young people at their confirmation:
• Know where you are going and what you are doing.
• You are special.
• Do your best.
• Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
These words capture the heart of his ministry and the depth of his character—a man who not only preached the Gospel but lived it in every interaction.
We have lost a strong, faith-filled leader and passionate defender of faith and truth like Bishop Henry. His passing leaves a profound void. Yet, his life and witness inspire us to continue the mission he so passionately embraced: to stand up for the Gospel, to live for Christ, and to defend the values of the Kingdom.
Bishop Henry, may you rest in eternal peace. May God’s perpetual light always shine upon you. You will be forever remembered.
We offer our prayers to Bishop Henry's family. He has been part of our daily lives for many years. The sharing of Birthday wishes, Anniversary's, Easter & Christmas cards along with daily prayers and his thoughts on so many topics is already missed. God Bless you Bishop Henry and may you rest in peace. You have been special to so many people. .

Sincere condolences to the family of Bishop Fred Henry. I am truly saddened by his passing but know that the good Lord has welcomed him home. I knew Bishop Henry from his time as Rector of St. Peter’s Seminary in London. He possessed a passionate ability to both clearly articulate and adamantly defend the faith while at the same time exuding the compassion and pastoral love of Christ himself. He was a special gift to the Diocesan Communities he has served and to the Church in Canada. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace.
Bishop Henry was a great supporter of the Knights of Columbus. During my terms as Master of the Fourth Degree he always gave me support and guidance. I attended many of the Bishops Dinners during that time. I had many opportunities to golf with him, which was his passion, something he always enjoyed. He came to the majority of our Annual Golf Tournaments at St Paul's, Airdrie which we started in his honor when we did our fundraising for the expansion to the church, and we continue still. He will be truly missed. May he rest in Peace in the arms of Christ. Michael Drewniak, Former Master of the 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus S. Alberta District

Our deepest condolences to Bishop Henry’s family and friends. We are forever grateful for his unwavering support to the 5-year Santos Anjos Catholic Community’s apostolate in Calgary and for having always made himself available to us, during and after Santos Anjos. We are also immensely grateful for the courage and clarity with which he spoke against many of the evils and lies of our culture and society today. May his soul rest in peace.

Bishop Henry’s unwavering compassion and steadfast advocacy for refugees and newcomers was cherished in our community. His commitment to the resettlement of thousands of refugees during his tenure as Bishop of Calgary was a profound testament to his heart for serving the most vulnerable among us.

My deepest condolences to Bishop Fred’s family and congregations. Bishop Fred was an inspiring force of Jesus’ love in my life. Thank you, Bishop Fred for your Priesthood.
Dear Bishop Henry,
You taught me and you were my spiritual director and group leader at St Peter's Seminary in the 1970s. You were an inspiration to me and my family all through my life. You will be missed. May God grant you your most deserving reward in heaven. Love, Chris Prior and family.
Rest in Peace Most Reverend Bishop Frederick Henry
A truly Holy Man who was a huge part of my husband's life and my life.
We met Bishop Henry in 1969 in Windsor Ontario. He was a parish priest at Christ the King who served his parishioners
extraordinarily and faithfully well.
For the past 13 years he has sent prayers and readings and weekly sessions during Lent on U tube and music and jokes and factual information about the world which I and others will miss so much.
He helped so many with his strength and belief in God and compassion and faith and he always saw the beauty in young people.

Rest in Peace you brave and honourable servant of God. You were a true-blue straight shooter and I encouraged my children to follow your words and deeds. Sadly such conviction is in short supply today . If there is a way to advise the brass in Rome from heaven I know you will find it........Noel O'Mahony and family.
Bishop Fred Henry, we thank you for your love and dedication to the Priesthood and for being our Bishop. We remember very well the first time we met you that Good Friday many years ago in front of the Cathedral when we walked the Stations of the Cross. You were very kind, friendly and most approachable, giving us a glimpse of your ability to be a very good bishop. You proved yourself on so many issues and situations, standing firm on the “ Truths and Teachings “ of Jesus Christ! You made us proud in our FAITH, thank you.
Bishop Henry, you were such an approachable Bishop, answering every letter or email we ever sent you! Although you did not promote our pilgrimages to Medjugorje, you never stopped us or discouraged us from taking pilgrims there. You would always say to people that if they wanted to go there, then go with Chic and Marie. You now know that Our Lady’s Apparitions in Medjugorje are really happening!
Bishop Henry, we will feel your absence, we are grateful to God for your presence in our lives! You are now resting in God’s loving arms. Pray for us.
My deepest condolences to the whole Henry family.
One of my cherished memories of Fred was singing Christmas songs after dinner on Christmas Day. We would sit around the table singing Christmas carols for hours. Fred, like the rest of us, looked forward to singing Christmas songs year after year. Some of us sounded terrible but that didn’t stop us.
Another fond memory was when Fred would hold private mass for us in his mother’s dinning room making us all feel special one way or another.
God Bless,
Frances Henry
Our dearest Bishop Henry you played a very important role in our lives. Your memory will always be cherished in our hearts and in our family. I’m sure you are resting with the angels now. May they carry you home to rest. As you saved us from all evil and harm many times. Your words and your actions were an inspiration to all. May you forever rest in peace.
I remember one of his homilies he shared his struggles with health and how they caused him great pain and that surprised me so much as I always saw him in service with a smile and welcoming attitude, I could never have imagined he had health challenges. I still remember his attitude and learn from him , in the midst of suffering may I learn to be joyful in ny service to others. May he rest in the good hands of the Lord. Amen.
