Obituary of Gillian Meyer

February 11, 1946 – Kingston Upon Thames, England

January 16, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta

Gillian Meyer (nee Furnell), beloved wife of Christian Meyer, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 78 years.

Gillian was born in Kingston upon Thames, England, on February 11, 1946. She met Christian in Edmonton, AB, and through their 58 years of marriage, they were blessed with two daughters, Joanna and Sandra.

She accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her English heritage and upbringing.

Gillian loved music and enjoyed singing in numerous community choirs. She had a love of all animals, especially the pets that the family had over the years.

Gillian's most memorable vacation was when she went and saw the Sistine Chapel in Italy with Christian. She enjoyed the many trips they had over the years and spending time out in Kananaskis Country or in the mountains having a picnic.

She will be most remembered for her love of life, her kind heart, and being there for her family.

Besides her loving husband Christian, Gillian is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna Meyer and Rick Burton of Red Deer, AB; Sandra Meyer and Neil Phillips of Calgary, AB;  and her two grandchildren, Ethan and Jaden.

Gillian is also survived by her sister, Gail Jones of Calgary, AB, and her brother Robert Furnell of Vancouver, BC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gillian was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Joan Furnell.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 10:30 am. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
