September 9, 1977 – New Westminster, British Columbia
January 23, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nicole Jayne Delany, beloved wife, mother, teacher, mentor, and friend. Nicole died peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 47 years, following her battle against cancer.
Nicole dedicated over twenty years of her life to shaping young minds as an educator in both Ottawa, ON, and Calgary, AB. She was known for her unwavering passion while teaching elementary school children from Kindergarten to Grade 4, as well as her kindness, and her ability to inspire her students to reach for their highest potential – while at the same time making learning fun for them.
Whether in the classroom or beyond, Nicole's impact was immeasurable. She had a unique gift for making every student feel seen and valued, and her legacy will live on in the lives of all those she taught.
Born in 1977 in New Westminster, BC, to parents Dennis Delany of Dublin, Ireland, and Sarah Delany (née Montgomery) of Cape Breton, NS, Nicole had a love for learning from an early age. She pursued her degree in Education at SUNY Potsdam, NY, USA.
She began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Ottawa, ON for two years, followed by an impressive sixteen years in three schools in Calgary, AB, Fish Creek School, River Bend School, and New Brighton School. Throughout her tenure at Fish Creek School and New Brighton School, Nicole was not only a teacher but also involved in various school concerts, a cheerleader for her students, and a constant source of encouragement.
Outside of the classroom, Nicole was an avid reader, a gardener, and loved to spend time reading and watching movies with her girls. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her warm heart and sense of humour were cherished by everyone who knew her.
Nicole is survived by her husband Farzain, her two children, Adelynn and Braelynn, and her beloved pet dog Winston.
